Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry that seeks to eliminate poverty housing from the world and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Linda and Millard Fuller founded Habitat for Humanity in 1976. For more information please see Winchester-Frederick Co, Habitat for Humanity

Response
Response is Shenandoah County's support system for victims of domestic and sexual assault. Services provided by Response include a hotline, a shelter for women and children, providing court advocates and accompanying rape victims to hospitals. Response also works in our area schools to educate and prevent violence in dating teens. Our congregation supports Response by volunteering at the shelter, collecting personal hygiene items for women and children and by donating money. If you are interested in donating your time and or resources please contact Pastor Lee. Response needs volunteers all the time.

Lebanon - Clary Quilters
The Lebanon Quilters began as a group sponsored by the LCW in 1979. That year 14 women met monthly and made 7 quilts and 35 lap robes. Among these early women we recall the names of Margie Brill, Clara Campbell, Mozelle Hockman, and Lucky Hockman. Later on we recall others joining the group - Mary Miller, Cindy Henry, Ruth Ann Hockman, and Nina Chappell. When ladies from surrounding communities began joining them, they became the Lebanon-Clary Community Quilters. They made queen size, regular and small quilts, lap robes, bibs and stuffed animals. At a glance their sessions took on a look of a manufacturing plant as the various groups went into action-cutters, designers, stitchers (using sewing machines), pressers, and finally the knotters. Mozelle Hockman donated several quilt tops. Others donated material and other supplies. Finished products were donated to the elderly, Lutheran War Relief, local nursing homes, the Shenandoah County Farm, fire victims and the Children's Ward at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital. The girls from Floe Wilderness School in Warren County made a visit to leam the craft.

In 1989 a very specially designed "Descending Dove" quilt was sent to the Fall Bazaar at the Lutheran Home in Roanoke, VA. In 1983 they fashioned a "Butterfly" quilt for a local raffle and Missy Hockman won it. They lost count of the number of various items made-the demand was great. Feeding Bibs and Lap Robes were perhaps the greater in number because of the demand in the local community as well as nursing homes and hospitals. Many quilts were donated to LCW Synodical Conventions and distributed where needed.

The season always ends with a Senior Citizen's covered dish meal at noon-games, Bingo and lots of fellowship. They continue to be active and expect to continue for many years. Their slogan is "QUILTERS KEEP YOU IN STITCHES." We need to credit Dorothy Heishman for keeping this group going.

Honduras Missionary Trip
In 1998, three members from Lebanon Lutheran Church joined with four citizens from Shenandoah County to go on a mission trip to Honduras. We were able to help many Hondurans by working in dental and nutritional clinics. Our work made possible by the kindness of the people in our area, friends, neighbors, family and strangers who helped raise money for our trip.

Four years later in May 2002, two of our members who wanted to do more for the people of Honduras returned. Our congregation raised the money for airfare, a refrigerator for a daycare center and money to buy large quantities of food for the hungry in Honduras.

But what I realized more than anything by going to Honduras is that each of us has a mission. It maybe going to Honduras or it may be walking across the yard to a neighbor and sharing Christ. - Jennifer
